New Standards Toolbar and Searching Options
Standards & Specifications: A How-To Guide
The new e-Library redesign and Primo upgrades have had a nice side-benefit as we are now able to do some things we have been tinkering with for ages such as the New Standards Toolbar and Searching Options.
Researchers can now:
1) Download a toolbar tailored to the needs of ISU researchers looking for industry standards!
We have added a new box to the Standards LibGuide alerting researchers to the new toolbar and giving instructions for downloading it. See the following LibGuide page for the specifics:
http://instr.iastate.libguides.com/content.php?pid=83014&sid=616037
2) Search in one location for industry standards at ISU – the SEARCH BOX ON THE LIBRARY HOME PAGE – regardless of whether the standards are in the Library Catalog (with LC call numbers and shelved in the General Collection) – OR – are part of the “uncataloged” Standards Collection in Room 161. If you want to test out the search – look for “tanks and standards” – the results will include standards in the General Collection, Microforms, and the Standards Center.
3) View a Quick Tutorial on finding standards at ISU that includes content on this new way of searching and the new Primo screens – it’s available here: http://static.slidesharecdn.com/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=ansistandards-primo-fall2010-100819112746-phpapp02&rel=0&stripped_title=ansi-standards-primofall2010
4) Bookmark a page that will allow them to search JUST the ANSI ISU Holdings. Researchers who do this should relabel their bookmark after they save it…otherwise it will be called something generic like Primo by ExLibris.
let me know if you have any questions/comments.
Thanks -- Stephen
